Juliette McGill
Born in 1970, in Hertfordshire, Juliette McGill studied Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art in London. McGill is rapidly becoming a name on the UK art-scene. Her fresh innovative style strikes a chord with young buyers and experienced collectors alike. Having lived in London, San Francisco and Paris, Juliette now lives and works in Hertfordshire.
McGill's inspiration comes mainly from the female form and in capturing the many different aspects of the female character. This representation of the female psyche is explored through different mediums. Her paintings can have a more classical feel by using oils or acrylics on canvas and sometimes a more immediate approach is applied by line drawing highlighted with energetic splashes of colour. Both techniques result in 'arresting' strong images of woman.
In her paintings McGill's characters depict modern-day 'super-heroines', who move effortlessly in life, with style, grace and sophistication. "I am strongly influenced by my personal life experiences, and travels. I am fascinated by people and their lifestyles and stories, both the differences and similarities between my life and of others".
After graduating from Art School in London, McGill worked in the fashion industry for many years, travelling around Europe as a buyer and stylist. "I love fashion; it is still a huge inspiration for me and my work".
For years I wanted to start my own fashion label, and then I realized that painting just did it for me better. In my work, I can create the heroine I want, choose her hair colour, skin tones, make up, eyes, put her in different surroundings, and style her on the canvas. I can create whatever I want.

McGill's paintings are not just about 'surface' and styling, they are a visual 'homage' to the female spirit. "I have one of my images in my bedroom, and every morning I wake up and look at her, and she reminds me to go striding out there in the world with confidence". My paintings are not just loved by women, but men too, I am interested in the 'balance' of female and male energies, the yin and the yang, one cannot exist without the other. McGill's paintings aim to capture the interplay of inner strength and courage, with the sensual femininity that is the true power of the female essence.
